Authenticity

While the Electra Metropolis opened in 2017, its roots go back a bit further. The building was constructed in 1959 and served as the home for the Ministry of Education for decades before its transformation into a luxury hotel. That modern history appears throughout in its contemporary and considered design, while its more ancient history is on display as soon as you walk up to the entrance.

The hotel has been built around a tiny 16th-century chapel, which stands between the Electra Metropolis' exterior pillars. It's one of the more memorable displays of the ancient and modern colliding in Athens. Guests can venture down to the basement to go back further in time and see part of the 2,500-year-old Themistoclean Wall that once encircled Athens.

Location

One doesn't really get a more central location than the Electra Metropolis, which is on Mitropoleos Street just a few blocks down from Syntagma Square. Popular shopping street Ermou is one block over, where travelers can peruse a variety of shops in a car-free zone. The Acropolis and Monastiraki Square are both just 10 minutes away on foot.
