Introducing Cambodia

Centuries of heritage, unbelievable natural beauty, and friendly locals make this welcoming destination a premier stop for all travel enthusiasts.

When is the best time to visit?
There’s no bad time of year to visit Cambodia, but the main tourist season happens when temperatures are coolest from November through February. To avoid some of the crowds, visit towards the end of the country’s dry season, which extends all the way into May.

Where to go in Cambodia?
For an iconic Cambodian experience, tour the temples of the ancient city of Angkor. Additionally, there are many undiscovered off-the-beaten-path gems, like the untouched island beaches of Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem, the up and coming bustling city of Phnom Penh, and the 216 stone faces carved at Angkor Thom.

How many days do I need?
Budget at least 6 days in Cambodia to explore the temples and also get to know the vibrant community.

We had a truly enriching experience in this trip. The service level was of level we have never seen before. Our guide Dy met us at the airport and was with us for every single activity all the way to seeing us off at the airport. She was very very nice, knowledgeable and easy to converse with. Our itinerary was just right, although we really wish we had (at least) one more day in Siem Reap. Every single thing was taken care of in the package, the guide with the transport of the day would meet us at our hotel at exactly the scheduled time and drop us back for our free time when the scheduled part ended. The car (a Lexus SUV) was very nice and comfortable, and the tuktuk and the tuktuk driver we used on one of our days was also very nice. Dy is also an expert cyclist and guided us very gently on our cycling tour of the temples. The kayaking team was also super-nice and ensured we had an amazing day even when it was so hot. They think of everything - there's always cold water to drink, cold towels to freshen you up. Our 'dine with the locals' activity was truly special and we are so happy we could interact with a Cambodian family in their own home. Our driver 'Yaya' was also very sweet and would buy us different snacks while he waited.

The quality of rooms and the service at hotel Sokkhak Boutique was also beyond words. I have never had such warm and courteous and thoughtful service anywhere I have been.

Cambodia (Siem Reap/Angkor) as a destination itself was a whole other fabulous experience. I don't think I can write so much here. Only that everyone MUST VISIT and just do that with this travel agency.

All in all, we are simply out of words (other than a string of superlatives) to describe our experience.

Hotel Review
Sokkhak Boutique Resort
Siem Reap City

Beautiful and quiet and green property. Absolutely warm, kind, smiling, friendly and thoughtful service. I had a fantastic massage there too. Don't think further, just stay here.

Authenticity & Character
It didn't look like a cookie-cutter multinational chain. It looks actually like a large home with many bedrooms (like a 'bed and breakfast'). The decor is with local aesthetic and art. There was always a fragrance of lemongrass, I loved it. They would make a welcome art on the bed also with some local natural leaves and flowers.
Location
quiet, yet close (small tuktuk ride) to the happening spots.
Staff
extremely thoughtful, courteous and friendly.
Cleanliness & Comfort
It's clean and comfortable! What details can I add ? :)

Steve did a really nice job planning our trip to Cambodia. We had a few conversations with him to describe what we were interested in doing/seeing and he came up with a suggested itinerary and made all the arrangements. We were really pleased with the accommodations and the guides were professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Drivers were available when we arrived at destinations so we did not lose any time waiting or trying to figure out transport.

Dear Anne-Marie,
Welcome back home and thanks for taking the time to review the trip.
I am very happy it was a wonderful family trip and that you felt everything was well organised. Also, excellent to hear you particularly liked guide Dy. It helps she has a daughter the same age as your children. We work regularly with Dy and I will let her know your appreciation.
Looking through the comments two negative points:
(i) meal at Eleven One. I am trying to find out what happened here. The same meal was ordered for all 4 of you. I can only assume someone mixed up tables. Our guide, Pich confirmed she didn't ask for anything to be changed so it should have been the same. You should have received a printed menu also. Overall, we get good feedback about the restaurant but will keep an eye on it seeing as it didn't rate too highly.
(ii) Palace Gate Hotel. I will follow up with the management on the points. I can only assume they were short-staffed with Khmer New Year. I can imagine quite a few needed to have time off with their families. However, that shouldn't have impacted on your stay at all. I did stay at Palace Gate a few months ago and all seemed fine. The rooms are a little dated but they also try to keep the 'heritage feel'.

I can see you enjoyed many aspects such as the beach, destination dining at Villa Chandara and hope that all members of the family have wonderful memories of their time spent in Cambodia. It was very hot during your visit (and still is!) so you did an excellent job not to wilt!

Best regards,
Steve.
